Decline foretold

It’s a bit rich that the New Zealand Initiative (the rebranded NZ Business Roundtable, rebranded because of the harm it caused) is bemoaning a drop in our kids’ educational achievement.

The Roundtable policies, forcefully pushed, contributed hugely to the increased inequality in New Zealand. This, Covid-aided, bears the fruit foretold 25 years ago by teachers. (Huh, teachers – what do they know? If they were so smart they’d be rich, like us.)

Our advantaged kids are still world leaders in PISA, as I see in my whanau. The disadvantaged suffer.

The New Zealand Initiative is reaping as it sowed.
