Black Hole rope

I’m really disappointed that someone in the Nelson City Council has decided that the swing rope at Black Hole on the Maitai River is unsafe ( Nelson Mail, November 14) – the root network of the tree has been eroded. (Yes, it has – but it’s not that tragic.)

So many kids have built up the courage to swing from the rope, my son included. It was a rite of passage when he was growing up. We frequently swim at Black Hole, and the swing rope is so popular with all the kids.

If the council has to remove it, can they build a swing structure – like they put into playgrounds? Sunday Hole has lost its swing rope, too. Or should we just encourage kids to stay indoors and play on computers?
