Supreme court judges order Zuma back to prison

Jacob Zuma, the former South African president, should return to prison to finish his sentence for contempt of court, the supreme court of appeal has ruled after finding his release on medical parole was ‘‘unlawful’’. Zuma’s jailing last year for ignoring an order to testify at a corruption inquiry set off the worst civil unrest since the end of apartheid. He was released in September 2021 after serving only a few weeks of a 15-month term on the orders of the national commissioner of correctional services, Arthur Fraser, an ally of Zuma, 80.
