Top pay to dress as Spider-Man or to wear nothing
Forget washing dishes for minimum wage, students looking for summer jobs this year can pick from a range of roles with higher pay rates than ever as businesses desperately seek workers.
Try on $80 an hour dressing up as a superhero for children’s parties for size. Or how about $140 an hour to take walking tours around Christchurch? If you fancy it, there is $150 an hour to be a nude life drawing model for hen parties.
Director of Rainbow Kids Parties Jordan Beddoe is currently advertising for students to dress as superheroes and is offering $80 an hour plus travel expenses. People willing to put on a Spider-Man or Elsa costume are the most sought after. ‘‘The parties might only last an hour and a half but I have students that sign up for several and are making more than $1000 a week,‘‘ she said.
Beddoe only employs students and usually needs about 40.
‘‘Students are flexible and fit in with school holidays, when we tend to have more parties.’’
Despite the high pay, she said she had noticed this year it had been harder to fill positions.
‘‘Maybe it is because of the pandemic, that it has made people less outgoing as everyone has just got used to staying in.’’
Other jobs currently advertised include a nude life drawing model for $150 an hour in Auckland, or $140 an hour for a tour guide in Christchurch. The life model listing is described as ‘‘the perfect parttime gig to supplement your current job or university study’’. The only requirement is that you must be ‘‘well presented, comfortable and confident posing fully nude in front of groups of women of all ages’’.
In Christchurch, someone with ‘‘knowledge and passion’’ for the city is sought for two-hour daily tours up to four days a week. While the city tours are nominally free, guides earn up to $140 an hour from guest donations – which the companies promises are very generous.
