-

The new Mercedes-benz Sprinter will arrive in New Zealand this month with a reinterpreted design, more safety features, maximum costeffectiveness, customer and sector-oriented features and an infotainment and telematics package designed for the next era. More than 1700 different Sprinter variants can be generated by combining body types, drive configurations, cab designs, body lengths, tonnages and load compartment heights. Front-wheel drive and new transmissions: Sprinter’s rear and all-wheel drive is now supplemented with a new, frontwheel drive system. The payload of this version increases by 50kg and an 80mm lower loading sill makes loading/unloading and access/egress considerably more convenient. New Sprinter gains two newly developed transmissions for front-wheel drive – a standard nine-speed automatic torque converter transmission and the likewise newly developed 6-speed manual transmission. More safety features: Mercedes-benz equips the Sprinter with standard safety features such as Active Brake Assist, reversing camera (not applicable for cab chassis variants) and ATTENTION ASSIST. Sprinter has the radarbased distance control system DISTRONIC, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and the Parking Package with 360-degree camera. Crosswind Assist continues as standard. Telematics system with 7-inch HD display: The third Sprinter generation sets completely new standards when it comes to telematics. The MBUX multimedia system (Mercedes-benz User Experience) has a 7” HD display as standard with an optional 10.25” alternative head unit and is controlled either via the touch-capable steering wheel controls, the touchscreen already mentioned or a completely new voice control system. Satellite navigation is operated by keywords such as “Hey Mercedes.” Six-cylinder or four: Sprinter’s most powerful diesel engine has 3-litre displacement and delivers 140kw and 440Nm of torque at 1,600 to 2,600 rpm. Like the 3.0-litre version, the smaller four-cylinder diesel engine has common-rail direct injection. From a displacement of 2.1 litres and with rear-wheel drive, this engine generates a choice of two outputs: 105kw or 120kw. With front-wheel drive the outputs available are 84kw or 105kw and a motorhome segment exclusive 130kw option. Manual intervention on 7G-TRONIC PLUS: The well-proven standard 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission can also now be controlled using “Drive Select”. This is immediately available for all rear-wheel drive variants and all all-wheel drive variants when available. The Total Cost of Ownership – where the new Sprinter scores points: All Sprinter variants have service intervals up to a maximum of 40,000 kilometres or two years. Its comprehensive warranty means peace of mind for three years or until the vehicle has travelled up to 200 000kms. Standard Roadside Assist comes at no extra cost during the manufacturer warranty period. This means customers are covered anywhere in New Zealand. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Furthermore, a simple and flexible range of Servicecare pay as-you-go and pre-paid capped priced servicing options provides transparent servicing costs.
