Let me ask you a personal question… have you got a guy?
Maybe you want MYGUY. No, not my guy, I don’t have a guy, but there are times when I could sure use one, I could get so much more done if I had a guy…
But if you want someone you can call your guy, you need to talk to MYGUY, or perhaps Leon Allen, the founder of MYGUY.
Confused? I’m not surprised, let’s try and clear this up for you: Leon is the founder/ owner/managing director of MYGUY – a helping hand handyman service for the too busy.
You probably have a ‘laundry list’ somewhere; this is a list of those pesky little jobs that you know need to be done, you just can’t seem to get round to doing them.
Leon – or one of his team – sees laundry lists all the time, and they are the guys to take care of those laundry lists, which might include painting, carpentry, roofing, spouting, tiling, flooring, fencing and decking or overhauling kitchens and bathrooms – any odd job which can come under the umbrella of property maintenance.
“These can be jobs that take an hour or expand out to two weeks,” explains Leon. “And right now, we’re seeing a bit of growth when it comes to commercial property maintenance and handyman services.”
Like the residential services, no job is too big or too small. Changing lights (those fluorescents are so hard to get to!), to installing partitions or mezzanines, MYGUY is the guy to call.
While there may be subcontractors involved (very few jobs require just one tradesperson these days) you’ll be dealing with just one contact person who has access to a list of qualified subcontractors who work side by side with your guy from MYGUY.
Actually, there are six Myguys, a half dozen handy types who take considerable satisfaction in fixing, repairing and maintaining things around your place.
And you’ll probably click when I mention that they drive around in a fleet of Ford Transit Custom vans. “Oh yeah; the green and white ones! I’ve seen them…”
Professionally done, aren’t they? I mean, those are some pretty standout vans, right? MYGUY is not a cowboy outfit then.
Emphatically not! Leon started MYGUY two and a half years ago, and it was an idea which came to him having worked alongside professional builders.
This was where Leon noticed standards were a little more than relaxed and a little less than proficient.
“There was also a decided lack of communication between builders and their clients,” Leon recalls. “With a corporate background spanning some 20 years, I appreciate the value clients put on staying in touch. It really just comes down to professional courtesy – the combination of professionalism and courtesy.”
It was this ‘professional courtesy’ which led to Leon choosing the Transits for his fleet of experienced handymen.
“I’ve always liked Fords,” explains Leon, “and I have a Ranger Wildtrak as my personal vehicle, but although the ute is brilliant, it’s not really well suited to what I need my guys to do. I went to John Andrew Ford and was pleasantly surprised at what I found in the new Transit Custom.
“The five-star safety rating impressed me, as did the availability of satellite navigation, which makes getting to jobs so much easier. I could also see the advantages of the large cargo area packaged into a compact body, knowing that some places we go to, don’t allow bulky vehicles. The Transit Custom fits the bill in more than one respect.
“I did want to check out the competition though and Xing from the dealership was so confident in his own product, he invited me to try out some other vans, but added he was sure I’d be back.
“He was right. The Transit looked the best, had all the bells and whistles including Fordpass Connect to keep home base in touch with each driver and make the paperless office a reality for the company. The retractable roof racks that come as standard are helpful for the guys as well.
“I think that was what sold me – the fact that the guys really appreciate the vans. They spend a lot of time in them, and I want them to enjoy working, so, they should have vehicles they feel good about driving.”
It’s an interesting consideration that while Leon commissioned Signcraft – a Grey Lynn company – to handle the signwriting on the vans (“I like to buy local and use local”) the interior fitout of each van is the personal work of the driver.
“Builders like to build things,” explains Leon. “And they take pride in their work. As well, each builder configures his van to his own requirements and can showcase his work as required from his ‘mobile office,’ which is how I see the Transits,” says Leon, “mobile offices for a business on the grow.”
