Two local photographers have taken out top category spots in the sixth annual Sony Alpha Awards, open to photographers from Aotearoa and Australia. Auckland-based Jana Luo won the City/Street category in the 2021 awards programme, with a fogfilled view of Auckland’s inner suburbs shot from the summit of Mount Eden.
Wellington photographer Laurie Winter secured the top rank in the Landscape category, with a tranquil shot of Lake Wairarapa taken during a camping trip. The two photographers, who are both self-taught, each received more than $2000 worth of new Sony gear for their category wins.
The overall competition, which this year saw 4900 entries, was taken out by Australian photographer Matt Beaver. WAKING UP IN THE FOG, JANA LUO, CITY/STREET CATEGORY WINNER, SONY ALPHA AWARDS 2021
