The new app gives Avis Preferred customers the flexibility to choose what vehicle they want upon arrival if there is another make or model they would rather prefer, or, even enabling them to upgrade to something roomier should their travel party require a little more space on the day. Now, they can even pre-pay using the Avis app too, if that’s more convenient.
If travelling domestically to Auckland Airport, Christchurch Airport, Wellington Airport or Napier Airports, (the Avis App can even be used internationally - in select Australian and North American locations) and you’ve booked via the Avis App it provide you a notification 24hours before your upcoming booking to remind you of your collection time. If you need to modify it at this stage, or even cancel it, that’s easily done at the tap of a button here too.
Once you’ve landed, the Avis App, if still running in the background of your smartphone, will either show you one of two messages;
1. if the counter has assigned you a vehicle (see Assigned
screenshot) it will ask you to ‘view’ the vehicle that has been assigned to you, at which stage you can review it and change to another make or model in the same vehicle category at no charge or, you may choose to upgrade in to one of three higher/larger vehicle categories for a small upgrade fee. You will then proceed to the Avis counter to collect your keys and contract (see CollECtion sCrEEnshot).
2. if the counter has not yet assigned you a vehicle (see
Unassigned screenshot), you can do an ‘early pick up’. In this scenario the home page on the Avis App (if within 2 hours of collection time and within 8 kilometres of the designated collection airport) will say at the bottom, ‘Your reservation is ready for pick up. Choose your car now’. You will then again have the choice to review three make/ model options within your selected vehicle category that you had pre-booked, or, you may choose to select one of three shown upgrade options. You will proceed to the Avis counter to collect your rental contract which will be ready and waiting.
All this can be done before you’ve even left the runway!
Once you’ve collected the vehicle the Avis App still continues to assist our travellers. Not only does it allow you the freedom to change your vehicle when you arrive at your destination, but you can then also use it to locate gas stations and car parks – so handy when travelling in an unfamiliar region. In addition, it can also be used to extend your hire, should your travel plans change on the go and you need to stay a little longer (see Make
a change screenshot). If you’re in a rush to catch that plane, it can also help navigate you back to the return location!
Once you’ve returned the vehicle your e-receipt (see
Returned screenshot) can also be found in the handy App, storing them all here for up to 6 months after your Avis hire.
Individuals may also update their Avis Preferred profile directly from the Avis App too at any stage, keeping their details all up to date and current (including credit card details and address details).
