Play Away with AVIS and dis­cover their new app to make rent­ing a car so much eas­ier.

The new app gives Avis Pre­ferred cus­tomers the flex­i­bil­ity to choose what ve­hi­cle they want upon ar­rival if there is an­other make or model they would rather pre­fer, or, even en­abling them to up­grade to some­thing roomier should their travel party re­quire a lit­tle more space on the day. Now, they can even pre-pay us­ing the Avis app too, if that’s more con­ve­nient.

If trav­el­ling do­mes­ti­cally to Auck­land Air­port, Christchurch Air­port, Welling­ton Air­port or Napier Air­ports, (the Avis App can even be used in­ter­na­tion­ally - in se­lect Aus­tralian and North Amer­i­can lo­ca­tions) and you’ve booked via the Avis App it pro­vide you a no­ti­fi­ca­tion 24hours be­fore your up­com­ing book­ing to re­mind you of your col­lec­tion time. If you need to mod­ify it at this stage, or even can­cel it, that’s eas­ily done at the tap of a but­ton here too.

Once you’ve landed, the Avis App, if still run­ning in the back­ground of your smart­phone, will ei­ther show you one of two mes­sages;

1. if the counter has as­signed you a ve­hi­cle (see As­signed

screen­shot) it will ask you to ‘view’ the ve­hi­cle that has been as­signed to you, at which stage you can re­view it and change to an­other make or model in the same ve­hi­cle cat­e­gory at no charge or, you may choose to up­grade in to one of three higher/larger ve­hi­cle cat­e­gories for a small up­grade fee. You will then pro­ceed to the Avis counter to col­lect your keys and con­tract (see Col­lEC­tion sCrEEn­shot).

2. if the counter has not yet as­signed you a ve­hi­cle (see

Unas­signed screen­shot), you can do an ‘early pick up’. In this sce­nario the home page on the Avis App (if within 2 hours of col­lec­tion time and within 8 kilo­me­tres of the des­ig­nated col­lec­tion air­port) will say at the bot­tom, ‘Your reser­va­tion is ready for pick up. Choose your car now’. You will then again have the choice to re­view three make/ model op­tions within your se­lected ve­hi­cle cat­e­gory that you had pre-booked, or, you may choose to se­lect one of three shown up­grade op­tions. You will pro­ceed to the Avis counter to col­lect your rental con­tract which will be ready and wait­ing.

All this can be done be­fore you’ve even left the runway!

Once you’ve col­lected the ve­hi­cle the Avis App still con­tin­ues to as­sist our trav­ellers. Not only does it al­low you the free­dom to change your ve­hi­cle when you ar­rive at your des­ti­na­tion, but you can then also use it to lo­cate gas sta­tions and car parks – so handy when trav­el­ling in an un­fa­mil­iar re­gion. In ad­di­tion, it can also be used to ex­tend your hire, should your travel plans change on the go and you need to stay a lit­tle longer (see Make

a change screen­shot). If you’re in a rush to catch that plane, it can also help nav­i­gate you back to the re­turn lo­ca­tion!

Re­turned screen­shot) can also be found in the handy App, stor­ing them all here for up to 6 months af­ter your Avis hire.

In­di­vid­u­als may also up­date their Avis Pre­ferred pro­file di­rectly from the Avis App too at any stage, keep­ing their de­tails all up to date and cur­rent (in­clud­ing credit card de­tails and ad­dress de­tails).
