The “oldest old” – people aged 85 and older – are much more socially isolated than those aged 65 to 84, University of Lincoln researchers in England have found. These older people also have more difficulty accessing healthcare services or getting out to buy food, even if they are in good health. The researchers say more should be done to meet the social needs of those aged 85 and older, including making it easier for them to use services such as Skype and online shopping and banking.
