FEELGOOD TELLY

We enjoyed Wild New Zealand on TVNZ 1 on Sunday night. The photography is superb and Sam Neill narrates clearly, but mostly, how refreshing having appropriate, noninvasive sound effects. Mary Howan (Picton)

CHANGING ‘CORO’

Now that MasterChef has ended, would it be possible for TVNZ to move Coronation Street to 8.30pm? It is hard for those who watch on Friday and Saturday nights to wait up until 9.30pm – and for what purpose, when the rest of the population is probably out socialising? Liz Riley (Dunedin)

NEW HISTORICAL SOUNDS

Following Brian Collins’ letter about the demise of Jim Sullivan’s Sounds Historical on RNZ National ( Talkback, January 7), readers may like to know that a programme containing similar material is being broadcast fortnightly on Otago Access Radio. Heritage Matters is produced under the auspices of the Dunedin-based Southern Heritage Trust.

Although the focus is on historical figures and events in Otago and the wonderful built heritage in Dunedin and its environs, we also include stories that are of interest beyond Dunedin.

For example, we have covered the history of state housing, nationwide flu and polio epidemics, the importance of retaining heritage structures, sweated labour in the 19th century and factory reforms, early immigration and colourful stories of the Otago gold rush.

A new edition of Heritage Matters is broadcast every second Monday at noon (February 6 is the first for 2017), then repeated the following Sunday at 7.00pm.

Otago Access Radio’s frequencies are 105.4FM or 1575AM, but the programmes are also available as podcasts at oar.org.nz. Jane Edwards (Dunedin)

THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE

I loved watching House of Cards on Netflix. It was compelling and entertaining, although I questioned the plausibility of some storylines. That was before Donald Trump. Juliet Crew (Papanui, Christchurch)

STAYING IN

A few years back TVNZ showed a couple of series of a sitcom called Not Going Out, starring Lee Mack. It must have been quite popular as it was repeated. Several more series have been made. Any chance of seeing them? Mike Walmsley (Coromandel)

Talkback responds: TVNZ says it has no plans to screen the subsequent series.
