SHAKESPEAR­E IN LOVE-HATE: Dear Mr Shakespear­e is a short film that has taken its director, Shola Amoo, all the way to Sundance. Made as part of the British Council’s Shakespear­e Lives in 2016 project, it features artist Phoebe Boswell’s contemplat­ion of Shakespear­e’s Othello and was first released on the Guardian website: tinyurl.com/NZLDearMr. Also screening at Sundance is a new short film made by Laura Poitras ( Citizenfou­r) and Henrik Moltke, in which Rami Malek and Michelle Williams read excerpts from classified NSA documents. PODCAST OF THE WEEK: Unexplaine­d is the Twilight Zone of podcasts and its mysterious stories of the paranormal propelled it to No 2 in the iTunes chart last year. It’s made by a screenwrit­er from Tottenham, who has covered such stories as the Pontefract Poltergeis­t and occultist Aleister Crowley. Its second season launched on January 25 with a story about talking trees in the Black Country west of Birmingham. Details and episodes at unexplaine­dpodcast.com.

The Wireless: Music is a new series of short films on TVNZ OnDemand that opens up the world of niche music.
