CULTURE TO BEAT BLUES
Could yoghurt ease depression? University of Virginia school of medicine researchers have reversed its symptoms in mice by feeding them Lactobacillus, a probiotic bacterium found in live yoghurt cultures. They have also discovered a specific mechanism for how the bacteria affect mood, providing a direct link between the health of the gut microbiome and mental health. They plan to confirm these findings in patients with
depression.
