Jimmy Fisher is right ( Letters, July 15) in his comparison of Islamic terrorists with the IRA and Catholic Church. The violence in Northern Ireland was a civil rights issue with neither side claiming to fight in the name of the Christian faith.

Indeed, the Catholic Church threatened excommunication against anyone involved with the IRA. Would that Muslim leaders were so strong in their condemnation of terrorists acting in the cause of Islam.
