PERILS OF PPIs

-

Prolonged use of popular heartburn drugs called protein pump inhibitors (PPIs) may increase your risk of dying. A new American study published in BMJ Open found that people who used the over-the-counter drugs for one or two years were 50% more likely to die in the next five years than those who used another kind of heartburn drug called H2 blockers. PPIs are meant to be taken only for a few weeks, but many people take them for longer.
