FOOTBALL

A shocking season for the Wellington Phoenix wraps up with no hope that the team will make the play-offs. In round 27, they play qualifiers Melbourne City at QBE Stadium in Auckland (SS3, Saturday, 7.30pm). Hopefully, after the shock of losing coach Darije Kalezić, the Phoenix can rise again with a new coach and a re-energised team. Keep the faith, Yellow Fever.

MOTORSPORT

The fast cars that go round and round are at the Shanghai International Circuit for the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix (SS4, Sunday, 4.30pm), a track favoured by four-time F1 world champ Lewis Hamilton.

Loads of guys in leather. What’s not to like? The Superbike World Champs roll up to MotorLand Aragón in northern Spain (Race 1, SS4, Saturday, 8.15pm; Race 2, SS3, Sunday, 9.15pm). The big Ducatis have been dominating in the first two rounds, although the Kawasaki team, led by threetime Superbike winner Jonathan Rea, is nipping at their (w)heels. The Netherlands round of the champs begins on Friday (Practice 1, SS4, 7.35pm; Practice 2, SS1, 10.20pm).

In other two-wheeled news, round two of the British Superbike Champs is live from Brands Hatch in Kent (SS4, Monday, 12.00am).

RUGBY LEAGUE

What are you doing to our hearts,

New Zealand Warriors? Do we dare to dream? In round six of the NRL, they’re on home turf at Mt Smart for a game against the Brisbane Broncos, a team they beat handily last year (SS2, Saturday, 4.30pm). On Friday, expect a tougher match against the St George Illawarra Dragons, although the Warriors still have the home advantage (SS2, 7.30pm).
