RELIGION VERSUS SCIENCE
Of course, Barry Thompson ( Letters, May 26) is correct that we cannot “dismiss the teachings of Christ as irrelevant”. The world could be a better place if more people, including many who call themselves Christians, followed the wisdom present in the Gospels more closely (and Israel Folau won’t find anything there about gays burning in hell).
What Thompson doesn’t consider is the possibility of respecting Jesus as an influential figure without the nonsense that has grown out of proclaiming him to be the only begotten son of an imaginary God. Martin Green (Whangarei)
