A study of two re­mote Venezue­lan rain­for­est com­mu­ni­ties backs the case that the Western life­style causes blood pres­sure to rise as we age. The study, pub­lished in JAMA Car­di­ol­ogy, found that the blood pres­sure of peo­ple liv­ing in a com­mu­nity with some ac­cess to Western foods and medicine did in­crease with age. How­ever, that was not the case for the hunter-gath­erer com­mu­nity de­scribed as one of the least as­sim­i­lated in the world.
