Here are more responses to our call for poems about Harry and Meghan’s dispute with the royal family.

Ken Watts of Ōhope:

Harry was tempted to leave “The Firm”, Meghan helped his bridges burn, For her a potential potentate was easy enough to manipulate, Meghan said, “I want a Princeling”, Harry needed no convincing,

Then Meghan said, “We need another” / to which Harry replied, “That’s no bother”,

This kind of ploy’s been tried before

(Cleopatra managed four),

But still the pair persist in whingeing; Abusing their fame for media

bingeing;

There’s a maxim here for me and you: “Can’t have your cake and eat it, too.”

Ellie Henderson of Motueka:

Meghan was an actress

Who became a royal mummy When she didn’t like The Firm Meghan spat the dummy.

But the winner is Glenda Burkett of Taumarunui: The Queen is sad, William’s mad, And Charles has had enough, Meghan and Harry say

Being royal is pretty tough, Racial slurs and lack of cash Have got Oprah on their side. They made their case with puppy eyes, But it seems they may have lied, and the monarchy has learned

The cost of yet another American bride.

Next (thanks to Ellie Henderson of Motueka), provide examples of a tired cliché used in a context where it could be read literally. For example, a policeman could not attend a traffic incident because he was “tied up” at the local dog show, a newspaper reported. Entries, for the prize below, close at midday, Thursday, April 29.
