These stacks of Kauri (above) would be worth a fortune today. Timber off the saws is pushed by hand on rail trolleys to the stacks for air-drying, hence the huge inventory. It looks like a dangerous place to work and it is. Around NZ, collapsing timber stacks take too many lives and eventually the government has to regulate.
