Tensions in transforma­tion programmes

Success stories have a habit of making things seem easy when in reality, transforma­tion is far from an easy process and employees being ‘change weary’ is just one of the tensions that companies face. There is very real tension between needing revitalisa­tion but desiring normalcy and there are numerous strategies that successful companies employ to avoid transforma­tion fatigue. Clearly not all employ these as the European Economic commission reported that two thirds of large-scale enterprise transforma­tion programmes fail to achieve their goals.

We found four strategies that have proved successful for transforma­tion across enterprise-wide programmes as well as more specific marketing, brand and internal culture programmes:
