-

Age: 29

Nicknames: Morrie. Most people don’t know my name is actually Ryan Morrison.

Married/family? Or relationship? In a relationship with a beautiful Dutch girl named Lisa.

Where do you live? Arataki/Mt Maunganui. Where, when and how did you first get into

surfing? I grew up in the Mount and I used to boogie board till I was about 13 then my dad said that I looked stupid lying down on a wave and bought me a surfboard and taught me the art of surfing.

Travel? Fiji, Samoa, Indonesia, Thailand, England, France and Australia, including Tasmania.

Favourite place to surf? Too many to name. Matakana, Salani Rights in Samoa, Point Annihilation and Tracks, Indicators, Clyde St... and the Blow hole.

Your perfect surf session? 4-5 foot Island with all the boys out, then back to Major Toms for some beers and barrel stories, or after watching

the Cloudbreak contest staying on Tavarua for a week or so would be pretty nice.

Your stance on localism? I’ve found every break has a local pecking order and some form of localism which is fair. As a “Mountie” I’ve been on the road since I was a grommet to find waves (due to our unfortunate inconsistency), and have run into trouble at certain spots. I’ve found having a good attitude and being respectful gets you a long way. I would like people to be the same when coming to the Island. Just don’t roofie a local.

Occupation? Builder.

Life Highlight? Drinking straight Jameson and hanging with Chuck Ragan (singer of Hot Water Music), was pretty cool, and going to Wimbledon and seeing Novak Djokovic play was amazing. Meeting Lisa. And I’m sure there’ll be some more important life highlights coming up.

Fave beer? Major Toms beer.

Rugby or League? Rugby, the World Cup win was a good night. I have a love/hate relationship with the Warriors.
