"Constant back to back swells batter the rugged coastline of Margaret River, where I currently reside. If the swell has a hint of South in it, it’s guaranteed to funnel its way up the West Australian coastline to Indonesia. With freezing temperatures and horizontal rain the allure of a quick flight to warm water and perfect waves is hard to look past. My Indonesian connection stemmed through my old man and his attachment with Bingin and its people. My brother and I were fortunate enough to be introduced to Indonesia in the late 90`s. Dozens of trips later the fuzzy feeling still exists every time I board a plane. Earlier this year I was blessed to stay at fellow Wainui boy Christie Carters Wavepark in the Mentawai’s. Christy has quietly spent the past 20 years creating absolute perfection. Words can’t describe the detail and hospitality that gets provided by Christie and his partner Alice on the island. I spent days dragging my jaw along the white sandy beaches in amazement. The desire to move back home to New Zealand and surf pumping Wainui with childhood friends is my goal. However, the one thing holding me back is the ability to jump on a 3.5-hour flight from Perth to the magical land of Indonesia."
