STYLE ME PRETTY

I say anything is fashionable as long as it is styled well, looks healthy and you love it. This is the one day you can extend yourself beyond your normal style, but be realistic being sure to consider the location, season and climate. Regardless of the style you go for, pack a can of hairspray in your beauty bag. Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Elastic Flexible Hold Hairspray, $30, gives flexible, natural-looking movement. (Tauranga) Often your wedding is one time where you’ll wear a hair accessory – whether it be a veil, fascinator or hair jewellery. If you’re going all-out with headwear, choose a simple hairstyle and if you’re planning to remove it for the reception, carry a comb and serum to combat frizz and flyaways.

Barb Ryan Hollywood glamour is at the front of trends: think long, sculpted waves, smooth, sleek styles and lots of shine. Use Redken’s Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist, $38, and Outshine 01 Anti-Frizz Polishing Milk, $38, to create a high-gloss look without weighing hair down.

Natasha Boustridge At the moment, the feeling for wedding hair is akin to what I call ‘organic glamour’. The looks are all about having your hair done, but not looking like it’s had too much effort put in. I have also seen a lot more people who are wearing their hair down – including bridesmaids. These days everyone is looking more modern and fashion-forward than traditional. Use a shine spray – try the Pureology Colour Stylist Radiance Amplifier Anti-Frizz Shine Spray, $38.

Louise Pilkington LEFT, AND BELOW Current bridal runway favourites are big on sleek up-dos that are all about volume. This season is all about ‘romance’– think texture, and a vintage, relaxed feel with the use of hair accessories. A must-have is a good hairspray; Joico Power Spray Fast-Dry Finishing Spray, $26, now comes in a handbag size, fabulous for touch-ups throughout the day. Joico Power Whip Whipped Foam, $26, is a great foundation product to apply to wet or damp hair for a good hold, and styling products can be used with it to build your style and shape.

Angie Wilkinson A big trend right now is braids. These can be big and undone, or alternatively, as small sections blended through waves. I suggest carrying a travel-sized hairspray for touch-ups throughout the day and a couple of extra bobby pins – just in case.

Clare Whitworth

I am noticing a lot more beautiful, big, shiny waves in modern bridal looks. It is important to prep your locks for a ‘hair out’ style that involves curls, as this look is more vulnerable to disaster than an up-do. Make sure there is enough product to hold the curl in place for the entire day. I suggest using a volumiser when blow-drying to give the hair some guts – try Joico Body Luxe Root Lift, $31, and keep frizz and flyaways at bay with Joico Humidity Blocker, $26.
