Will you marry me? Brock and I met in 2009 through mutual friends. Three years later we were in Fiji for my mum’s birthday, when Brock took me for a romantic sunset walk along the beach. He suggested we write our names in the sand to see how long they would stay there for. I wrote my name first, and then instead of writing his, he added underneath: ‘Will you marry me?’ scene setters We got married on our fourth anniversary, exchanging vows in front of 90 guests atop a balcony overhanging Braçu’s crystalline pond. Embracing a simple, elegant wedding style, the rich autumnal outdoor tones echoed our orange palette. Inside, we decorated with tangerine-hued lilies and roses – sourced by our wedding stylist – held in vases of various heights. Twinkling fairy lights, mirrors and tea lights enhanced the romantic vibe. My dream dress As soon as I set eyes on my Vinka Design gown, I knew it was the one. Crystal beading embellished the ruched, figure-hugging bodice, and a subtle split brought the silk chiffon skirt to life as it moved. I accessorised with simple diamond earrings, a delicate Swarovski bracelet and diamantéen-crusted peep-toe heels from Trousseau. A floor-sweeping veil, also from Vinka, gave my look an elegant finish. Finishing touch Brock wanted to give his outfit a unique touch. He’s always loved Lego, so when he found black and orange block cufflinks on 4men’s website, he snapped them up. a sumptuous feast Braçu’s sit-down, three-course menu featured dishes such as duck confit and roasted beef, with raspberry soufflé leaving a sweet taste in guests’ mouths. Our three-tiered, fondant-covered cake, made by a friend, featured two layers of fruit cake (one to eat and one to keep), and one of chocolate ganache. Orange lilies spiralled down the side of the tiers, while thick orange ribbon gave the cake a striking yet sophisticated finish. special touches Brock’s love affair with classic Toyotas found a special presence in our day – throughout our stationery we included a sketch of his 1978 Corona, the car he was driving when we first started dating, and instead of numbers, we allocated each table a sketch of a different classic Toyota. My advice for brides to be Take some Radiance Tart Cherry Sleep the night before the wedding – I enjoyed an uninterrupted rest, waking up feeling refreshed and ready for the big day.
