NORFOLK ISLAND
Our honeymoon expert Anita Gatley knows a thing or two about a great holiday. Here, she shares her latest destination discovery.
Lately, I was fortunate enough to visit Norfolk Island – a small, Australian- governed Pacific island located between Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia. Imagine rolling green hills, white sand, a turquoise lagoon, twinkling rock pools and towering Norfolk pines. I have to admit, I had always thought of the island as a sleepy destination. Wow, was I surprised! What I love best is that Norfolk Island allows you to do as much or as little as you choose. There is a variety of activities and tours – think fishing charters, snorkelling experiences and island treks. When you want to take it slow, head off to a massage. Enjoy dining on fresh sea food and sumptuous produce amid the lively local dining scene. There are great accommodation options too – Forrester Court is a favourite. Nestled on a cliff edge overlooking Cascade Bay, this boutique property is truly in a class of its own. While Norfolk Island is a great destination for those marrying in summer (the climate is similar to the top of the North Island) conditions are fine in winter too. Days are warm, with cooler mornings and evenings. This is the ultimate honeymoon with a difference. Warm, friendly, easy. And the best bit? It’s less than two hours away.
