I regularly get asked: “where’s the best place to honeymoon?” The South Pacific islands are a natural suggestion, but while the likes of Fiji and Rarotonga spring to mind first for many people, there are plenty of reasons to look toward islands flying under the radar: they’re likely to cost less and have more availability, but still boast scenery and culture to rival the bigger names – so what better destination than dreamy Samoa? Samoa certainly punches above its weight. If you like beaches and snorkelling, head to the white sandy shores of Lalomanu Beach. Hire a car to explore – To Sua Ocean Trench and Sopoaga Waterfall are definitely worth the visit. Swimming with turtles sound like fun? Make it happen with a quick ferry ride from the mainland to nearby Savai’i. My favourite place to stay is Seabreeze Resort. I was lucky enough to nab the honeymoon suite (a rarity, as it’s usually fully booked, so get in quick) and woke to an incredible view out to sea. Their superb restaurant also welcomes guests not staying onsite, a benefit of Samoa – with plenty of restaurants and everyone welcome, you’re spoilt for choice. Seasonal fruit and local produce lovers are sure to be in foodie heaven. If you’re seeking sun, romance, relaxation, revitalisation and culture, Samoa is just a four-hour flight away.
