CRAFTING A FLAWLESS BACKUP PLAN

-

Planning an outdoor wedding? Yes, you need a backup plan. Having a Plan B is crucial when it comes to minimising weather worries. But even though it’s your second option, it deserves your full attention – you want it to feel as if your rainy-day option has been the plan all along so you minimise stress on your big day.

VISUALISE TWO OPTIONS

Couples are usually left the most disappointed and stressed when they have been dreaming of only their outdoor location. It’s important to visualise your second option as well, so it still feels like the day you imagined even if the weather turns sour.

THINK THROUGH THE DETAILS

Make your Plan B detailed enough for the proceedings to run just as smoothly as you intended they would with Plan A. For instance, if you make a floor plan for an outdoor event, make one for you backup venue too. Your guests will never know the difference!

DECIDE YOUR THRESHOLD

As well as deciding what your Plan B involves, decide when you’ll implement it. Be clear about what weather you’ll tolerate and how late you’ll leave it to change your plans. Remember, summer showers can move out just as quickly as they move in, so don’t jump the gun too quickly. Just be sure to check the grass though, to ensure your dress won’t get soggy and your heels won’t sink into the mud. It might be worth seeing if you venue has an outdoor dance floor they can lay down in the ceremony area, or some other artificial flooring.

CREATE A CONTACT LIST

Create a list of the guests, vendors and suppliers who you may need to notify about a last-minute change of venue, then give it to someone you trust. It’s best to organise this from the beginning, so the chosen person truly understands your vision. That way, you can leave the decision in their hands and concentrate on enjoying the day.

SUSS THE PAPERWORK

When you apply for your marriage licence, there is room to put two possible venues – one of which you have to wed at for your marriage to be official. Make sure you list your Plan B venue in order to be sure you won’t get a nasty last-minute surprise.
