THE FIRST BITE

-

Three to six months out from your big day is the ideal time to begin thinking about your wedding cake, but where to begin? Try these tips:

1 CONSIDER YOUR MENU: Begin by deciding if you’ll be serving cake alongside additional desserts or whether your cake will be the sole sweet treat. In addition to the number of guests, this will help determine what size of cake you’ll need, advises Jackie King from Cake & Co (cakeandco.co.nz).

2 WHAT’S YOUR BUDGET? Approach cake designers with an idea of your approximate budget, says Rebecca Dickson of Rebecca Jane Sugar Art (rebeccajanesugarart.co.nz). “With this in mind your cake designer can lay out options for you and break down the costs for you to consider.”

3 WHAT KIND OF DESIGN DO YOU ENVISAGE? “When searching for cake inspiration, don’t just look at cakes,” suggests Rebecca. Details from your wedding theme and things you love as a couple can all be starting points for a unique design. Gather these for your cake designer and let them create something special. Of course, if there’s an exact cake that you have in mind, that’s absolutely fine too.
