TOP FIVE FOOD TRUCKS
DITCH THE SIT- DOWN DESSERT Bring in a gelato or crepe van, or the original food truck, Mr Whippy! Bride Justine Butler from New Plymouth opted for the nostalgic merry music-maker for the ease factor. “Once people finished their burgers, they just lined up for the ice cream of their choice, at their leisure,” says Justine. “Mr Whippy also lets you drive the truck into the venue, and my husband loved the idea of surprising everyone by doing just that!” THERE ARE SUSTAINABLE OPTIONS If you do decide to opt for a food truck, know there are businesses that are passionate about achieving minimal waste. When researching, ask about their sustainable policies. To do your bit, have recycling bins nearby and encourage guests to use them. THEY’RE JUST DAMN COOL Gourmet-style food out of a caravan or cart – does it get any more hip? Justine from Hello Audrey says they have the ability to set the whole tone of a wedding. “People love food trucks because they’re different,” she explains. “It’s cool, it’s eclectic and a lot of them have amazing food. It also gives the vibe of being very casual – I call it a ‘I-just-woke-up-like-this’ wedding. A lot of effort has gone into it, but they like that casual kind of vibe, which is more like a festival.” THEY ARE A WELCOME NEXT- DAY BBQ OPTION Weddings and hangovers tend to go hand in hand, so it helps to give guests the easy option of sticking around, to get their coffee and grease fix. It’s also a fun way of continuing the celebration in a relaxed environment, where people don’t feel they need to make too much of an effort. Look into brunch options, such as crepe vans, or burgers for lunch.
