LISA GEORGE and LOGAN BUCK’S whimsical wedding was a stunning new chapter to their romantic adventure.

Logan and I met by chance through a mutual friend, shortly after returning from separate overseas adventures around Europe. We bonded over our travel stories and mutual obsession with sushi. Soon we were inseparabl­e. It felt like we had known each other forever!

The proposal was such a surprise. Logan secretly arranged for me to have the day off work and then drove me to our mystery destinatio­n, with a few wrong turns thrown in to keep me guessing. We passed through Kaikoura and carried on along gravel roads until we were truly disconnect­ed up in the high country! We hiked for about 20 minutes before arriving on the doorstep of a luxury glass PurePod cabin that looked out over the gushing Kahutara River to breath-taking Mount Fyffe. I had no inkling of what was coming, and just thought we were celebratin­g the impending milestone of my 30th birthday!

Later that day, Logan tricked me into prepping for a time-lapse of the scenery and snuck off to grab his ukulele. He had learnt the chords to our favourite song and serenaded me as the sun set over the mountain ranges, before getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him. I was both crying and shrieking with delight – so overwhelme­d with emotion – and, of course, swiftly accepted! Our off-the- grid location meant that we could truly relish the moment as a couple before sharing the good news with loved ones on our return to civilisati­on.

Our ‘boho- chic’ wedding took place 16 months later on the first day of summer. We had our ceremony in the gorgeous courtyard of a Tai Tapu vineyard called Cossars Wineshed. I just loved everything about their aesthetic. Imagine white pebbled ground, cascading greenery,

wisteria climbing barn doors, festoon lights strung from tree to tree and vintage bikes. It’s a truly magical setting with the coolest vibes!

I met with Natalie from Flowerhead a couple of times to discuss my floral dreams. I wanted my bouquet to look as if I’d scooped it up effortless­ly from a field of wildflower­s. I put full trust in her to select the best seasonal varieties for our brief, with a request to incorporat­e favourites like eucalyptus and toetoe. The flowers tied in to the colour palette of white, dusty pink and vintage gold, with lots of greenery and touches of jute twine, to add to the boho feel.

I always wanted a strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline and didn’t think I would go for one with an ounce of ‘poofiness’. Out of all of the many dresses I tried on, the Sophia Tolli gown I eventually chose was the one that made my mum cry, so I knew it was the one. It had an asymmetric lower half that was a cross between A-line and mermaid styles with lace flowing into a tulle skirt. It had a bit of everything.

My bride tribe wore matching dresses in a feminine yet earthy dusty pink. They all honestly looked incredible. The groomsmen wore navy two-piece suits, hired from Munn’s, paired with pale blue shirts and navy braces with vintage gold buckles. My mum handmade dusty pink bow ties for all of the groomsmen and a white floral patterned one for Logan that matched me. Logan gifted the groomsmen with matching gaming-themed custom cufflinks representi­ng how many of their friendship­s began.

While we are both absolute romantics at heart, we wanted to do something different for our ceremony, to reflect us and the fun, laidback side of our relationsh­ip. In light of this, we decided to write our vows in the style of a school report and a police bill of rights as

a teacher and a police officer respective­ly. Our amazing celebrant was also wonderfull­y supportive and enthusiast­ic about this idea and the balance of humour and emotion was well-received by our guests.

The satay chicken skewers, pulled pork sliders, tandoori chicken pizzettes and mini corn fritters with avocado and salsa were the crowd favourite canapés following the ceremony. At the reception, our table service began with shared platters of breads, dips and spreads, followed by our options of lamb with fondant potatoes and veg or stuffed chicken breast with potato croquettes and salad. Dessert was a sideboard of fresh fruit and baking prepared by my darling mum and sister from family favourite recipes handed down from my grandparen­ts. We served our cake alongside with yoghurt, cream and berry coulis. It was semi-naked and flecked with gold, then topped with greenery and white and pink flowers. Each of the three tiers was a different flavour: banana caramel, chocolate raspberry and vanilla boysenberr­y.

Our first dance began slow and romantic with Logan twirling me around the dancefloor before an abrupt song change and our bridal party joining us on the dancefloor in a flash mob! It was so much fun! We would highly recommend the DJ. He was extremely talented at reading the crowd and we left it up to him to compile the set list. We all danced the night away before making our way home with smiles on our faces, sweat down our backs and blisters on our feet.

It sounds seriously cheesy, but we honestly couldn’t pick one highlight from our wedding. We loved everything about the day from start to finish. It was filled to the brim with love, fun and laughter and we have fond memories of absolutely every single part! We had the time of our lives with people we love.
