KATIE’S BACK AS THE GRIEVING WIDOW

-

Katie Holmes is reprising her role as the iconic Jackie Kennedy in the gripping new miniseries

The Kennedys After

Camelot. The first series,

The Kennedys, was a ratings hit in 2011 so it’s been brought back and continues to portray

Jackie’s life in the aftermath of the deaths of her husband John and his brother Bobby.

This time, as well as acting, Katie

(38) has directed two episodes. “It was exciting to bring my ideas to the table,” she explains.

Stepping back into old shoes to play Jackie again might sound an easy fit for the actress, but it didn’t come without its challenges. “This was a different character completely. She was more of an innocent in the last series. She really became a strong woman in this one.”

Physically transforming into the former first lady also meant Katie had to diet. “I was always very hungry because she was so skinny!”

Despite the dieting, the costumes and the hair, Katie still managed to put a little of herself into the portrayal.

“Whenever you play a real person, there is a marriage between you and your research,” she tells. “You put a lot of yourself into the character, you don’t just want to imitate somebody. You are having to portray how you think that person felt at that given moment.” TheKennedysAfterCamelot, Prime, Thursdays at 8.30pm.
