Our morning Breakfast CONFESSIONS

-

IT’S FUN AND CHAOTIC, AND THEY LOVE EVERY MINUTE

The best way I can sum up the last year is… Happy chaos. I moved into a new working environment and got to make some wonderful new friends in the process and, despite the crazy early-morning alarms, I love every day I spend on air with them.

A memorable moment on the show that immediately springs to mind is… The morning a fire alarm went off about 5am. We had to evacuate the TVNZ building and wait for the fire service to check that everything was okay. It was only an electrical fault, but we didn’t get back into the building until just before we were on air, slightly dishevelled and rather puffed! If I could erase a moment I’ve had on the show, it would probably be… Attempting our own version of Adele’s Send MyLove. It was awful, quite possibly some of the worst television ever aired and to anyone who watched it – sorry! A guest I’d love to have back on the show is… David Walliams – just because he’s so engaging, entertaining and talented. Oh, and CNN’s Richard Quest – what a fascinating and delightful man he was too.

A dream guest I’d love to invite on the show is… Tina Fey. I’ve always thought she’d be a great interview subject.

If I wasn’t on this show, my mornings would most likely involve… Sleeping in later than 3am.

For my first meal of the day, I have… Bircher muesli – a few mouthfuls before the show just to ward off the hunger

pangs and then the rest after we’re off-air.

The most memorable birthday I’ve celebrated personally would have to be my… 30th. I was nine months pregnant, carrying an extra 28kg (on account of the “eating for two” mantra I’d adopted nine months previously) and it was summer, so the bloating was substantial too. Needless to say, the celebrations were both sober and brief. However, the birthday gift a few weeks later more than made up for it. When my alarm goes off at 3am each morning, my first thought is always… There’s been a mistake, it can’t be morning already!

To me, Breakfast is… Family.
