MARGOT ROBBIE TELLS WHY WE SHOULD HOP ALONG TO HER NEW FILM

-

From American figure skater Tonya Harding to Flopsy the rabbit, Margot Robbie’s film roles have certainly been diverse.

But despite her Oscar nomination for I, Tonya, Margot says it’s her latest part in Peter Rabbit that she was born to play. The new film is based on Beatrix Potter’s beloved children’s books and sees her voice one of Peter Rabbit’s sisters.

“I was the middle child and Flopsy also suffers from a bit of middle-child-syndrome, so I’ve really been preparing for this role my entire life,” she laughs. “But it’s fun being back in that family dynamic again when you’ve got brothers and sisters, and general mayhem!”

While this film could be the perfect activity for the children with the school holidays approaching, Margot insists this is a movie that will entertain anyone.

“I’m 27 and I find the jokes hilarious. There’s not one specific audience, although we made it for kids – it can be enjoyed by everyone.”

The live-action film brings a modern update to the classic tale and combines real-life humans with animated talking animals.

“It’s remarkable what they do with animation today,” explains Margot. “I couldn’t believe how much emotion they could put into their faces. They filmed us recording the dialogue, and inject our mannerisms and expressions into the rabbits.”

But despite the modern update, Margot insists this fun flick still embodies the magic of Beatrix’s original stories and drawings that the world first fell in love with. “It’s an honour to be part of it,” she says.
