‘MY DARLING WIFE’
Charles shows his love in a new documentary about Camilla
Prince Charles is set to open up about his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, in an unprecedented documentary due to air in the United Kingdom next week.
Following weeks of speculation around Camilla’s future role in a monarchy led by her husband – and a damaging period of negative publicity last year surrounding the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death – The Real Camilla: HRH The Duchess of Cornwall will show Camilla as she’s known to her inner circle, in what could be deemed a charm offensive.
The documentary features interviews with Charles (69), who calls Camilla (70) his “darling wife” and describes her as “the best listener in town – she can get anything out of anybody”.
Famous friends also make an appearance, including actress Joanna Lumley and broadcaster Gyles Brandreth, who tells, “Camilla isn’t interested in position or status.”
The programme, which was shot over a 12-month period and followed both Camilla and Charles as they attended a number of official engagements, is a rare glimpse into the royal couple’s relationship.
It comes amidst uncertainty about Camilla’s destiny once Charles is crowned king, with references to the duchess being dubbed a “princess consort” once he takes the crown being removed from official websites earlier this year.
Sources close to Charles say he’s adamant his wife will become his queen – and royal insiders suspect that this documentary depicting the “real Camilla” will go a long way to appease the public.
