ANTIOXIDANTS ARE YOUR SKIN’S BEST WEAPONS AGAINST POLLUTION
Prolonged exposure to pollution – especially in high-traffic areas – can wreak havoc on skin.
“A report in The Journal of Investigative Dermatology found people living in urban areas have more brown spots than those in rural areas,” says Janet Curmi, vice-president of global education and development for Elizabeth Arden.
However, she believes the use of skincare products containing antioxidants can help.
“These work to neutralise free-radical damage caused by environmental aggressors,” she says.
Another strategy is to cleanse your face every night, even if you haven’t put on make-up.
“Particulate matter [dust, dirt, soot, liquid droplets] adheres to skin’s natural layer of oil, which can lead to visible skin damage,” says Dermalogica education manager Emma Hobson.
