New Zealand Woman’s Weekly

FROM THE EDITOR

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate our special Mother’s Day issue than with our own history-making mother-to-be Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Now that Prince Louis has arrived (and what a surprise his name has come as!), Jacinda could very well be the next mother-to-be who has truly captured the world’s attention. And rightly so.

Next month, she will become only the second woman ever to give birth to a child while in office – almost 30 years after Benazir Bhutto, then Prime Minister of Pakistan, gave birth to her second child while in power.

This week, fresh after her visit to Buckingham Palace, Jacinda caught up with former Weekly editor and novelist Nicky Pellegrino to candidly discuss everything from those experiences in London, the parenting advice she discussed with Barack Obama, baby names and her first six months in our nation’s top job.

We thank you for making time in your busy schedule for us, Jacinda, and we hope you might be allowed a little lie-in on Sunday.

Happy Mother’s Day to you all – and especially to my supermum Alison!

Enjoy your week.
