THE FREE RANGE COOK DISHES ON HER CAREER

Legendary Kiwi cook Annabel Langbein is back on the box with her much-loved TV series now replaying on Food TV. The author of 25 cookbooks answers our foodie questions. How does it feel now looking back on Annabel Langbein: The Free Range Cook TV show and book? It’s so fun to go back and look at those memories! I still had the same yellow truck but my garden was just starting out back then. It was one of the biggest books in New Zealand publishing history and broke a record, selling more than 160,000 copies in less than a year – I’m very proud of that! What’s been your favourite book to work on? That’s a hard question because in a way, they’re all like babies to me. But maybe my latest book would be my favourite now.

Who would you love to have dinner with, dead or alive? From a cooking view, I’ve always admired Julia Child. The other person would be Sir David Attenborough.

What’s your favourite comfort food? If we’re really busy and I’m exhausted, it’s a dish that I learnt in Argentina. What they do is cook rice, then put a poached egg on top and some Parmesan cheese and some lightly cooked spinach. It’s a bit like carbonara without the fuss!
