THE BIG DAY

Your royal rundown for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding

-

It’s not long to go now! As the week goes on, we find out more and more, so here are all the need-to- know details.

THE SERVICE

The marriage ceremony is due to kick off at 12pm UK time (11pm in New Zealand) on Saturday,

May 19 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. It will be conducted by the Dean of Windsor, the Rt Revd David Conner, while the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will also officiate.

THE PROCESSION

After the service, the newlyweds will go on a 25-minute ride in the Ascot landau, an open-top, horse-drawn carriage, around the streets of Windsor. If it rains, they will switch to the covered Scottish State Coach.

THE GUESTS

Six hundred people will be in the chapel to watch the couple exchange their vows. Political leaders haven’t been invited, so UK PM Theresa May won’t be there and nor will US President Donald Trump. Former president, and Harry’s friend, Barack Obama also won’t be there. Meghan’s divorced parents Doria Ragland and Thomas Markle will be there, and her dad will give her away after her mother accompanies her to the church, but her half-siblings Thomas Markle Jr and Samantha Grant weren’t invited. Harry has invited his mother’s sisters Lady Jane Fellowes (who will give a reading) and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, plus her brother Earl Spencer.

THE RECEPTION

The main wedding reception will be held at St George’s Hall in Windsor Castle for all the guests, and be hosted by the Queen. After that, 200 of the couple’s closest friends will go on to a second party at Frogmore House, which is a kilometre away and part of Windsor Home Park.
