THE ROYALS’ THRIFTY SIDE REAPPEARS IN SWEET SNAPS

It’s a gorgeous picture of a besotted big sister placing a gentle kiss on the head of her sweet new brother.

Taken by their mum, it’s the kind of photo proud parents the world over are snapping of their offspring and posting on social media. But it just so happens that this shot is of the very newest member of the royal family, Prince Louis, and his doting older sibling Princess Charlotte, and has been seen by hundreds of thousands of people around the globe.

Mum Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, has followed the tradition she established when Charlotte was a baby and taken the first official shots of her newborn (after the photos taken outside the hospital) herself. Oldest son Prince George (4) was not in the photograph which celebrates both the birth of Louis on April 23 and Charlotte’s third birthday on May 2.

Along with the photo of the siblings, Kensington Palace also released a photo Kate (36) took of an alert-looking Louis on his own. And like many of those photos taken by other parents, this one shows the royal children wearing hand-medown clothing.

Louis is pictured in the same white jumper Charlotte wore in her debut picture with George back in May 2015, while Charlotte is wearing a navy blue cardigan that belonged to George. He wore it in a shot of the Queen with her great-grandchildren, taken by acclaimed photographer Annie Leibovitz at Buckingham Palace to mark Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.

This is not the first time items from George’s wardrobe have been passed on to his younger sister. On a trip to Canada in 2016, Charlotte donned the blue cardigan George had on when he visited her in hospital hours after she was born.

Royal experts expect thrifty Kate will recycle many of George’s old clothes for Louis. She and husband Prince William have proved in the past that they’re keen on re-using outfits where possible. For a Trooping the Colour ceremony in 2015, they even dressed George in a blue romper suit his dad wore at the same ceremony 34 years earlier.

And a bright red pair of shoes Charlotte sported during a visit to Poland in 2017 had been worn by her uncle Prince Harry as a child.
