Why Meghan hasn’t spoken to her dad since her wedding
It’s the story that won’t go away − and that’s exactly why royal sources are now speaking out against Kensington Palace for their handling of what’s been dubbed the “Markle Debacle”.
A damning story was published in the UK last week, in which past and present aides of the royals have slammed the response to the Duchess of Sussex’s outspoken family, in particular her father Thomas Markle’s repeated pleas for help and communication following the paparazzi scandal and royal wedding, calling it “inept” and “feeble”.
Meghan has not spoken to her father since before her wedding. Now, as Thomas has given three shocking interviews to media – with still no contact from his daughter, Prince Harry or the palace – insiders say the situation can no longer be saved unless Meghan intervenes.
“The perception is that he was treated very much as an afterthought,” says an aide. ”No-one went to visit him when the answer would have been to have someone fly out from London and explain to him how things were going to happen.
“The trouble stemmed from well before the wedding, when there must have been an opportunity for Harry and Meghan to pay a private visit to her father. This was long before he started giving interviews.”
Another insider adds, “It’s too late now for equerries or go-betweens to go to Mr Markle, it’s up to Meghan.
She clearly loves him enough to have wanted him at her wedding, so she needs to go and spend time with him.”
However, Meghan is said to be reluctant to speak to her dad as she is still embarrassed, hurt and angry with his slips of tongue and comments.
“The only reason Meghan hasn’t spoken to her father yet is because she’s yet to hear from him in a respectful manner,” a friend reveals. “Thomas is speaking to the press more than he’s reached out and spoken to his own daughter. If Thomas truly wanted to speak with Meghan, he could easily have sent a letter to her mother and asked her to pass it along.
“Unfortunately, that wouldn’t sell papers or fit his fabricated and salacious narrative.”
In Thomas’ latest interview, he accuses Harry of being “rude” by calling to admonish him while he was recovering from the heart attack and revealed that Meghan had denied him the chance to deliver a speech at the wedding.
