TRIBUTES POUR IN
Greg Boyed remembered
Much-loved and respected broadcaster Greg Boyed passed away suddenly this week in Switzerland, aged just 48.
The TVNZ presenter was away with his wife, musician Caroline Chevin (44), whom he wed in 2014, and their youngest child. Greg also has a daughter in her 20s from a previous relationship.
In a statement, his family announced the sad news, describing him as “a talented journalist, presenter, musician and an exceptional friend to those lucky enough to know him”. They added he had been battling with depression.
The news came as a shock to the many viewers who enjoyed watching him on TV, and to his TVNZ family, where he worked for 25 years. John Gillespie, TVNZ’s head of news and current affairs, lamented the great loss to the newsroom.
“He was a wonderful man and a talented broadcaster who strongly believed in the power and importance of journalism in people’s lives. Greg was known for his wit and warmth and kindness.
“It’s a very personal loss for us.”
Social media was full of tributes, including his former Seven Sharp co-host Alison Mau, who described him as “intellectually fierce” and someone who “could make you laugh like no-one else”.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern even tweeted, “I’ll be one of many who have sat opposite him over the years − such a thoughtful interviewer who was quick to share a laugh. My thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.”
