One of New Zealand’s first big radio personalities Merv Smith has died at the age of 85. The former Newstalk ZB host dominated the breakfast airwaves from 1961 until 1987, consistently taking the number one spot. He was known for his humble nature, good humour and his chidren’s character McHairy the spider.
