A relaxed APPROACH!

OUR GREAT SUMMER BEAUTY AND BEACH ROAD TEST!

-

1 THE HAIR MIRACLES

When it comes to your hair, keep your holiday regime reasonably fuss-free by packing something that can quickly take care of straw-like ends and keep your hair looking freshly styled without going to the effort of actually having to wash it.

WHAT TO PACK: L’Oréal Professionnel Series Expert Nutrifier Dryness Defense Balm, $19. Rub a small amount between your fingers and work it through your ends to add shine with a heavenly tropical scent. After a day at the beach, reboot hat-flattened hair with a spritz of dry shampoo. Pureology Style and Protect Refresh & Go Dry Shampoo, $44, even provides UV protection.

2 THE SUNSCREEN-REMOVING CLEANSER

An important step in your night-time routine is thoroughly removing the day’s sunscreen, which can otherwise clog pores and cause irritation. Rather than stripping skin with harsh detergents, though, opt for an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) based cleanser that will act as an exfoliant as well. WHAT TO PACK: Dr LeWinn’s Reversaderm Glycolic Cleanser, $40. The glycolic acid in this makes quick work of lifting away sunscreen and will leave your skin perfectly prepped for a serum or a night cream.

3 THE EASY TANNER

Summer holidays inevitably mean having a lot more skin on show than at any other time of the year. There’s no denying the confidence-boosting difference a hint of tan can make, which is why we highly recommend a gradual tanner that can double as your everyday moisturiser. Start smoothing it over your limbs a few days before you leave on holiday, then reapply daily throughout your break. WHAT TO PACK: Two or three applications of Skinfood Tanning Moisturiser, $17,

will start to take the edge off pale post-winter skin, while its oil-enriched formula will work to keep it healthy and hydrated.

4THE REFRESHING FACE MIST

The true multitasker, a face mist gives you so much bang for your buck. Keep one in the fridge to bring cooling relief after a hot day of sightseeing and get the added benefit of fortifying your skin with ingredients designed to lock in moisture and defend against free radicals.

WHAT TO PACK: Natio Rosewater and Chamomile Gentle Skin Toner Face Mist, $17.50. It’s made without drying alcohol and has a super-fine mist that refreshes the skin without saturating it.

5THE PROTECTOR

Most of us are pretty good at putting sunscreen on our face as part of our morning skincare routine, but we sometimes slack off with the reapplication. When you’re exposed to the sun, experts recommend topping up your protection every couple of hours. Ideally, you want to keep something on hand so you can do this wherever your vacation

may take you, whether it be sitting on the sand or dining alfresco. We think we may just have found an easy way to keep that protection topped up when you’re out and about.

WHAT TO PACK: Brush on Block Mineral Sunscreen, $44. This offers SPF30 protection in a transparent or touch-of-tan formula. Keep it in your bag and brush it liberally over your face throughout the day to keep that veil of protection up.

6 THE STAY-ON MAKE-UP

While some see holidays as a chance to go make-up free, for others, lashes and eyebrows are non-negotiable. If you’ll be in humid conditions or in and out of the water, go waterproof. WHAT TO PACK: Revlon ColorStay Brow Tint, $25,

acts like a liquid liner to create hair-like strokes, and has a non-smudge waterproof formula. Blinc Mascara, $55.

Waterproof mascaras are difficult to remove without a make-up remover, but tubing mascaras like this simply slide off each lash with a little help from your fingertips and warm water.
