CORO STAR’S JOY

Tina’s New Year wedding

-

For many people, a new year means a new start and that was definitely the case for Coronation Street star Tina O’Brien when she married her fiancé Adam Crofts in an intimate ceremony.

Known to millions as SarahLouise Platt, over the years

Tina’s character has been kidnapped, held hostage by a serial killer and jilted at the altar.

Tina first appeared on the soap in October 1999, aged just 16. And many of her friends from the Coro cast were present when the beautiful actress tied the knot with business development manager Adam at a boutique hotel in Manchester on New Year’s Eve.

Tina and Adam’s four-year-old son Beau and Tina’s 10-year-old daughter Scarlett played a big part in the ceremony.

“The wedding was just so us,” Tina shared. “It was intimate but fun. Even though it was our wedding, we wanted to make it feel like it was more of a night out as well. I just loved the fact that everybody was there and able to see in the New Year together. It was all about the people we really cared about in one place. It was perfect.”

Tina (35) and Adam (33) have been together for eight years after being “introduced” to each other by Scarlett when they were in a Manchester city centre coffee shop years ago – no mean feat considering Scarlett was just three years old at the time!

Three years ago, Adam proposed to Tina at the Didsbury House Hotel, which came as a complete surprise as she thought Adam was at the hotel with their nanny, Sarah, and

Beau checking out play facilities.

Since that day, they had a number of ideas about how they would like to get married − both Tina and Adam admit they aren’t the best at forward planning − but in the end they decided to get married close to home and do it as part of a big New Year’s bash.

Were you emotional?

Tina: I was, even though our vows were very short. There was one line that said, ‘All that I am, I give to you.’ That really resonated with me. It meant a lot and I really loved it.

Adam: The bit that got me was when I saw Tina coming down the aisle. I held it together before. But it felt

100% real when I saw her.

What part did Scarlett and Beau play?

Adam: Beau’s job was the ring bearer and my mini best man. Scarlett was one of

Tina’s bridesmaids.

How do you think they did with their duties? Tina: Beau brought the ring box over. He was supposed to open it but he just handed it over. He did amazing considering he is only four! I think he was very proud of the part he played. It’ll be something sweet to remember as he gets older.

In the run-up, he was asking, ‘When are we going to get married?’ Scarlett did really well too. I was surprised she didn’t snatch the microphone and start singing. I think Scarlett thought she was the Queen! Who was there from Coro?

Tina: On the day we had Helen Worth, who plays my mum

Gail, Lucy Fallon, who plays my daughter Bethany, Jack P Shepherd, who is my brother David, Julia Goulding, who is David’s girlfriend Shona Ramsey, Mikey North, who is my boyfriend Gary Windass, and Alison King, who plays Carla Connor. Did Helen Worth get emotional?

Tina: She told me she got quite teary. Having a singalong and being able to look at everyone was perfect for me. I got to smile at people and take in everyone who was there.

Will marriage change your relationship? Tina: I can’t imagine it will change our relationship. But being married will warm my heart a little more. I’m really looking forward to saying,

‘my husband’. It makes us sound like a proper couple. Sometimes when I said,

‘my boyfriend’ or ‘my fiancé’ I felt about 19 years old.

Adam: I don’t think it will change anything on a day-today basis, but I think it’s really important for both of us to be married. It didn’t matter where or when we did it.

Looking back, do you think fate played a part in you meeting in that coffee shop [Scarlett approached Adam at the table where he was sitting in Starbucks and said, Hello man.”]

Tina: Absolutely. It was a random encounter. It’s odd, the week before I remember walking down a street in Manchester and thinking that I felt happy being single but if I wanted to be with somebody, what would

I want? I made a list. I remember it as clear as day. Adam has all the qualities I listed. That street turned out to be the place where Adam was working at the time!

Adam: She’s a bit psychic. It’s a bit scary sometimes.

Why do you think Scarlett went up to Adam? Tina: She was just very chatty and friendly at that age. It was a coincidence. I could have just said goodbye after we chatted to Adam. But I had a dress on so it was fate – and the fact that Adam fancied my legs!

Adam: I can’t argue with that!
