STAR STYLE
VIOLA DAVIS
Bowing out! The Widows star could have gone without the oversize asymmetric bow on this otherwise elegant velvet Armani Privé dress. Paired with some larger statement earrings, the style could have made Viola look incredible.
GLENN CLOSE
The 71-year-old was the epitome of elegance in an Alexander McQueen dress. The waist detailing added flair to what could have been a boring ensemble.
CATE BLANCHETT
The Aussie’s red-carpet choices are hit and miss, but this time it was a big hit. The bejewelled Christopher Kane dress stood out in a sea of black and white. We love her new dark locks too!
MELISSA MCCARTHY
No need to forgive Melissa for this simple sequin dress. It might have seemed boring at an American awards show, but it fit in perfectly at the BAFTAs for the star of
Can You Ever Forgive Me?
SALMA HAYEK
This mismatched Gucci get-up did no favours for the Mexican actress, and her strange hairpiece detracted from the otherwise sleek black look.
MARGOT ROBBIE
This Chanel sequin and tulle dress may have looked sublime on the runway, but that’s where it should have stayed. Mary Queen of Scots star Margot missed the mark this time. It could have worked if she’d ditched the flutter sleeves and chosen a softer hairstyle.
RACHEL WEISZ
This English rose was a red-carpet favourite with her floaty Gucci gown. The actress, who won an award for her role in The Favourite, looked lovely but the tiered and frilly number did look a few sizes too big.
THANDIE NEWTON
Monochrome magic! Westworld actress Thandie was beautiful in a black and white Valentino ball gown. A style that is often quite girly looked nothing but sexy and sophisticated on the British star. Natural hair and make-up paired with simple silver earrings perfected the ruffled ensemble.
OLIVIA COLMAN
Olivia’s royal roles must have rubbed off on the BAFTA and Golden Globe winner. The Favourite star looked positively regal in an ivory and black Emilia Wickstead number.
The style was flattering and elegant, but a bold lip would have made it even better.
