Microcurrent Toning

HOW IT WORKS: Mild electrical currents (microcurrents) are emitted through two metal heads to energise and retrain the facial muscles, as well as stimulate the skin’s structural proteins – collagen and elastin. This sort of technology was originally used by physiotherapists for muscle recovery, and microcurrent facials have been available at skincare clinics and spas for many years. Incidentally, they are rumoured to have been one of Princess Diana’s favourite beauty treatments. THE PROCESS: We used an at-home version, which is FDAmedically approved. After applying a special primer to help with conductivity, we followed instructions to glide and hold the device in an upwards motion, starting from the neck. There are a couple of techniques depending on time – either a five-minute facial lift or an advanced 15minute lift. Three settings adjust the electrical level, but even on the highest, the most we felt was a tiny tingle. OUR RESULTS: One week of daily use and we’re hooked! The lift after each treatment is noticeable – especially over the brows – and although it only lasts a few hours, the results are cumulative, which is why the recommended treatment is five times a week for 60 days, then two to three times a week to hold on to the effect. This completely eliminates that “tired face” feel and leaves skin energised, not to mention plump and glowing.

COST: NuFace Mini Trinity Facial Toning Device, $339.
