New Zealand Woman’s Weekly

FROM THE EDITOR

-

Well, here we are. What truly extraordinary times!

For the first time in history, our Weekly team has created this magazine from afar, each working on the issue in our own homes – all separated, but working together as one.

I’ve never been so thankful for all the different programmes, apps and pieces of technology I can barely pronounce that have enabled us to do our jobs, stay connected and only give away once that I’ve been doing it all whilst wearing my pants tucked into oversized orange workmen’s socks.

Comfort really is key at a time like this!

And it’s what I hope the Weekly can bring to your life, especially now. It’s certainly given me great comfort to dive through our archives and look back at some of the tough situations this magazine has seen its readers through.

Born during the Great Depression, the Weekly has kept printing no matter what – even throughout World War II (albeit on a fortnightly basis due to a paper shortage).

Our founding editor, Audrey Argall, promised in her first editorial in 1932 that the

Weekly will “preach the gospel of usefulness, cheerfulness and happiness. Our ambition is to make a cheerful companion for every New Zealand woman and child; a friend to be welcomed and looked forward to in New Zealand homes.”

Right now it may feel as though you are alone, but we want you to know for certain that you’re not – you have a companion with you at this very moment. Through these pages, you’re very much surrounded by those who care and are dedicated to being here for you during this unsettling time.

We’re here to ensure you stay connected. We’ll bring you all the information you need, as well as doing everything we can to lift your spirits.

We may be very distant from one another right now, but we, the Weekly family are also very much together.

Take care and stay safe. I’m thinking of you all!
