About the author… Lauren Weisberger
She was born in Pennsylvania and studied English at university before getting a job as assistant to Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of American Vogue. The book she based on that experience, The Devil Wears Prada, was a worldwide hit. She has since written seven more novels and now lives in Connecticut with her husband and two children.
This novel was inspired by…
Like the two main characters, Peyton and Skye, my sister Dana is my very best friend. I’ve always wanted to write a book centred around sisters, one that reflects this incredibly special relationship. Another inspiration sprang from a dilemma. Like so many other parents who love their children, I struggle constantly with the question: how much is enough and when is it too much? I was curious and wanted to explore the idea: if the means and the opportunity were there, would you ever cross the line?
The most fun I had writing this novel was… creating the dialogue between Peyton and Skye. Sisters call it like it is – the good, the bad and especially the brutal. What’s more fun than making that come across on the page?
My writing habits are… they’ve changed dramatically over the years. In my twenties, I’d write late into the night – or whenever the inspiration struck – because I had the complete freedom of time. Now, with two young children, my writing gets planned precisely around their schedules. No more late nights or waiting for the lightning to strike. I have to be much more disciplined and get my word count done in the window of time I have or it won’t get done at all.
