New Zealand Woman’s Weekly

This week in...

- Marilynn McLachlan, Editor

It may seem like an unlikely friendship, but this week’s cover stars, Ryan Bridge and Mike McRoberts, are the best of mates. After their photoshoot, our writer Fleur sat down and enjoyed some lunch with the pair, who regaled her with hilarious stories, as well as far more serious ones about helping each other in challenging times. Mike was, he says, in a low point in his life when Ryan made him laugh again and that put him in a position where he was able to meet his new wife Heidi. It’s an emotional story about the power of friendship.

We also catch up with Suzy Cato, page 18, who has been entertaining Kiwis for more than 30 years. She stars in an upcoming film, Red, White and Brass, which is about a group of passionate Tongan rugby fans who come together to form a band in the hope of providing prematch entertainment at the sold-out 2011 Rugby World Cup Tonga vs France match. I can’t wait to see the movie – just watching the trailer made me a bit teary!

And in our royal news, King Charles has honoured the wishes of his parents and handed over the titles of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh to his youngest brother Edward and his wife Sophie. While they had a few blunders in the early years of their marriage, they worked hard and won the hearts of many. You can read more about them from page 12.

Over the past few months, I’ve had multiple readers request recipes for just one person – and this week we’ve designed a special section that if you open up the magazine to the middle, you can pull out the first eight pages, staple them together and create a mini recipe book to keep!

Enjoy your magazine and have a wonderful week,
