MORE SHOTS FIRED

-

New facts have emerged surrounding the tragic shooting incident on the set of the film Rust.

Veteran actor Alec Baldwin is due to go on trial in July for involuntary manslaughter after he fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, while rehearsing a scene for the western.

The film’s armourer, 26-year-old Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, has also been charged with involuntary manslaughter for the incident in New Mexico in October 2021.

Her case is currently before a jury and surprising evidence has revealed at least six live rounds of ammunition were found on set. Live rounds are not allowed on movie sets.

Bryan Carpenter, a former police SWAT officer who now works as an armourer in Hollywood, told the court myriad safety failings occurred on set, and behindthe-scenes footage showed actors waving guns in the air and even at other cast members.

He said prop firearms should always be pointed down when not being used for a scene.

Video evidence has showed Alec, 65, shooting a gun scene and immediately yelling at the film’s armourer, “Right away! Right away!

Let’s reload. Here we go. Come on!”

Explained Bryan, “He’s basically instructing the armourer how to do their job, [saying] ‘Hurry up, give it to me fast.’ Telling someone to rush with firearms is not normal, nor is it accepted.”

The film’s first assistant director Dave Hall also gave evidence, saying after Halyna was shot, he forced Hannah to show him the contents of the gun.

It held five dummies and one shell casing that was “completely different looking”, with a grey metallic base.
